Engaging with environmental issues through education empowers individuals to become problem-solvers and proactive guardians of the environment. This fosters a deeper understanding of challenges and equips them with the skills to make informed and ethical decisions.
At the 12th World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC2024) held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the Abu Dhabi Roadmap was unveiled. This comprehensive plan, conceived over four days of discussions, workshops, and events, serves as a global initiative to boost Environmental Education (EE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), with a particular emphasis on addressing the Triple Planetary Crisis.
The launch of this roadmap marks a significant milestone in the UAE’s quest for a more sustainable and resilient future. It underscores the nation’s unwavering dedication to advancing EE and driving progress in this field. WEEC2024 served as an ideal platform to introduce this environmental roadmap, highlighting the transformative potential of educational endeavors. Going forward, the roadmap will continue to galvanize efforts toward achieving a greener future.
This roadmap was meticulously crafted through collaboration with stakeholders from 83 countries, including esteemed organizations like UNESCO, IUCN, UNEP, as well as UAE government entities such as the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). Furthermore, input from the Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority (ECA) was instrumental in its development. Global environmental education experts also made invaluable contributions to its formulation.
